For my lesson I would use Green Eggs and Ham and teach the students about rhymes. The students would be given green paper eggs that were cut in half and would only fit together with a word that rhymed with its opposite half. The students and I would read the book as a class, while we are reading I will point out rhymes and ask the students what they notice about them such as, “box” and “fox”. I will say these words aloud a few times and then ask the students to tell me what they notice about these words. I will continue with this throughout the reading to help the students prepare for the activity that follows. Then the students will work in pairs identifying words that rhyme and putting their eggs together. This book also opens up the opportunity to have breakfast with the students if there is time and resources.
